Gene Gaia has lived in Memphis his entire life only leaving the city to serve in the U.S. Air Force for four years - 1960 until 1964 during the Vietnam Crises. Returning to Memphis, he became a salesman for a Tennessee statewide wine and spirit distributor. Within four years he was promoted to sales manager to develop and pioneer a new division when liquor and wine sales were approved in 1971 by the State of Tennessee for consumption in restaurants. After seven years he successfully achieved his goals of developing the on-premise division and was transferred back into the retail sales as a divisional sales manager for seven years. In 1985, he joined a competitive wholesale distributor as Managing Director until 1987. Leaving the wholesale wine and spirit business he opened two retail family liquor and wine package stores until 1990.

After leaving the wine and spirt profession, he pursued the mortgage business in a Branch Partnership in West Memphis AR. In 2002, he opened Colonial Mortgage Corporation as Owner and Manager. With the changes in government policy, he like others, in 2010, was forced to close Colonial Mortgage Corporation and join a local bank and trust as a loan officer. After 22 years in the mortgage industry, he is now a Loan Officer with The Bank of England in a branch located in Collierville, Tennessee.
